Furoshiki wrapping fabric is a traditional Japanese wrapping cloth, a square of material that has a long and fascinating history. The name "furoshiki" (風呂敷) is derived from two Japanese words: "furo" (風呂), which means bath, and "shiki" (敷), which means to spread. The term originally referred to a cloth used for bundling clothes while people bathed in public bathhouses. Over time, its use expanded beyond the bathhouse to become a versatile and an eco-friendly alternative for wrapping gifts and for carrying various items.

Furoshiki has become an embodiment of the Japanese principle of "mottainai," which encourages minimizing waste and making the most of resources. It's not only practical, but also a beautiful representation of Japanese culture and craftsmanship.

Well known for its adaptability, depending on the size and material, wrapping cloth can be used to wrap anything from jewellery and bottles to clothing and food, making it an ideal alternative to wrapping paper, bags and boxes. Simply use by tying the material ends together with a single knot or multiple knots, alternatively there are specific folding techniques for various purposes.

Japanese tradition depicts that the reusable wrapping fabric is returned to the giver of the gift. However, it can also become a 'gift within a gift', with the receiver of the gift keeping the wrapping cloth to reuse.

It is a true show stopper, whilst being quick and easy to use.

Fabric gift wrapping will enhance any gift and has a huge advantage over regular wrapping paper when it comes to wrapping boxes and irregularly shaped items, it does not tear as paper does.

For an added bonus, no scissors, tape or last minute trip to the shop required. Just keep a piece of fabric wrapping at home, at the office, in the car or just pop into your bag before you run out the door!
