What does reclaimed fabric mean?

Reclaimed fabric is fabric that already exists and is given another purpose rather than being discarded. It can include unused textiles, surplus material or fabric recovered from items that are no longer being used for their original purpose.

At Eazywraps, reclaimed fabric can include textiles that might otherwise have been thrown away, stored unused or sent for disposal, which can instead be repurposed as reusable fabric gift wrap.

Reclaimed, deadstock and recycled fabric: what’s the difference?

The terms are sometimes used together, but they do not mean exactly the same thing.

Reclaimed fabric is existing fabric recovered and put to another use rather than being discarded.

Deadstock or surplus fabric is unused material left over from production, cancelled orders, excess stock or fabric that is no longer required for its original purpose.

Recycled fabric has usually been reprocessed through a manufacturing process to create new material or fibres.

Eazywraps uses carefully sourced surplus and deadstock fabrics as well as reclaimed textiles, depending on what suitable fabrics are available.

 

Why give existing fabric another purpose?

If quality fabric has already been made and is still perfectly usable, it makes sense to keep it in use. Repurposing existing textiles gives the fabric a new purpose without needing to create more fabric when suitable material already exists.
